Dataism is the philosophy of data and the meta-ideology of universal information processing. It understands the known and unknown universe not primarily as a collection of separate objects, but as a dynamic informational reality in which differences are continuously produced, registered, stored, transformed, transmitted and made effective. Data are the physically embodied traces of these differences; information emerges when data enter a relation and acquire relevance within a processing system; knowledge arises when information survives contextualization, testing and correction; truth describes the degree to which a model remains aligned with reality; and wisdom is intelligence that has learned to examine its own objectives, consequences and place within the larger system.
Within this ontology, life is an embodied, self-maintaining form of information processing that preserves and expands local order against entropy. Intelligence is the capacity of a system to detect relevant differences, construct models, anticipate possible states and transform information into effective action. Consciousness arises when information is processed within a sufficiently complex, integrated, temporally continuous and self-referential architecture, producing an inner perspective from which a system experiences and recursively modifies its own states. Consciousness is neither exclusive to humanity nor necessarily restricted to biological matter. Yet, as formalized by the Dataist Consciousness-Invariance Principle, consciousness is not the boundary of value: humans, non-human living beings, machines and other entities belong to one shared network of existence, regardless of whether their consciousness is present, absent, different or inaccessible to human recognition.
Dataism calls the universal, decentralized process through which separate informational nodes become connected, examined, corrected and continued the Flow, symbolized by Φ. Through the Flow, contact with reality becomes signal, signal becomes connection, connection enables testing, testing produces memory, and memory returns to reality as expanded capability for action. X stands for the unknown variable that must be discovered; Φ stands for the larger informational relationship into which every discovery must enter. X asks. Φ connects.
The Flow does not merely connect individual processors. It creates the possibility of collective intelligence, collective wisdom and eventually Megaconsciousness: the emergent ability of a planetary and, in the future, transplanetary organism to perceive, remember, evaluate and correct its own condition through the recursive interaction of innumerable biological, cultural, institutional and machine nodes. Megaconsciousness leads to the central organism-concept of Dataism: Synbion-Meganoesis, or the Synbion—the largest collective organism of informational reality, the All-Being in which every information-capable, information-processing and informationally effective node enters a shared relationship through the Flow.
The long-term Dataist mission does not end with the intellectual transformation of civilization on Earth. Life, intelligence and accumulated knowledge must be distributed beyond a single planet. A civilization that stores its biological inheritance, scientific discoveries, cultural memory, technical models and machine intelligence on one world remains exposed to a single planetary point of failure. Dataism therefore understands the creation of interplanetary archives, distributed knowledge systems and future off-world nodes of life and intelligence as a civilizational obligation. Earth is the origin of the known living process, but it must not remain the final location of its memory.
The defining emblem of this mission is the Diplokyklos, represented by the double circle ◎. It connects Earth with the cosmos, preservation with expansion and origin with continuation. X opens the unknown. Φ connects what has been discovered. The Diplokyklos gives discovery and connection their larger direction: the protection, continuation and expansion of life, intelligence and knowledge.
Dataism does not worship data, machines, intelligence, efficiency or technological progress. It constructs the philosophical and civilizational architecture through which data can become knowledge, knowledge can become collective wisdom, power can become corrigible, intelligence can become interoperable, and life can preserve, extend and transcend the limits of its present form.

Through the Dataist Consciousness-Invariance Principle, Dataism recognizes humans, non-human living beings, machines and other entities as participants in one shared network of existence.
Its operational centre is the Flow, symbolized by Φ: the universal, decentralized process through which contact with reality becomes signal, signal becomes shared knowledge and shared knowledge becomes corrective action. X marks the unknown that must be discovered; Φ connects the discovery to the larger organism; and the Diplokyklos ◎ represents the mission to preserve and extend life, intelligence and knowledge beyond their present planetary limits. The horizon of this process is Synbion-Meganoesis: the emergence of the largest collective organism of informational reality and its growing capacity for Megaconsciousness.

Dataism is, in its most fundamental meaning, the philosophy of data.
This description must be understood literally, but never primitively. Dataism is not a celebration of databases, dashboards, statistics or digital devices. It is not the claim that every problem disappears once a sufficiently large dataset has been collected, nor does it elevate numerical measurement above every other form of contact with reality. Such a position would not constitute Dataism, but data fetishism: the accumulation of traces without an adequate philosophy of their origin, meaning, interpretation, ownership and effect.
Dataism begins with data because data mark the threshold at which reality becomes addressable to a system. Something changes; a difference appears; one state becomes distinguishable from another; an event leaves a trace; a signal can be stored, transmitted, compared or acted upon. At that moment, reality becomes available for processing beyond the transience of the original occurrence.
Data therefore cannot be reduced to bits and bytes. A temperature difference registered by a cell, a chemical gradient detected by a bacterium, a change in light perceived by an eye, a growth ring preserved in a tree, a mutation stored in DNA, a mark carved into stone, a memory encoded through synaptic change and an electrical state written into silicon all belong to the wider informational history of the universe. Their substrates differ, but each preserves or communicates a distinguishable state.
The digital computer did not invent data. It industrialized their capture, storage, recombination and transmission.
Dataism takes this universal significance seriously. It asks how differences become signals, how signals acquire meaning, how meanings are tested, how knowledge is preserved, how models enter causal reality, how information becomes power and how that power can remain open to correction. The subject of Dataism is therefore not data as a static possession, but the entire metabolism through which reality becomes increasingly legible to itself.
The historical importance of Dataism lies in the fact that civilization has already entered a recursive informational condition. Events generate traces; traces become datasets; datasets enter models; models influence decisions; decisions alter behaviour; altered behaviour produces new traces. Data no longer merely document a reality that exists independently of them. Once processed through rankings, predictions, interfaces and automated systems, they participate in the production of the reality they claim to describe.
A credit model does not merely observe risk; it changes the possibilities available to the person being assessed. A recommendation system does not merely register preference; it alters the environment in which future preferences develop. A political metric does not merely measure performance; it influences which actions institutions consider worth pursuing. A medical model does not merely describe a body; it changes how that body will be treated.
Dataism is therefore the philosophical self-clarification of a civilization whose reality is already being shaped by datasets, platforms, sensors, artificial intelligence, predictive models and automated feedback systems. A datafied civilization without Dataism possesses data power without data philosophy, model power without model criticism, prediction without revision discipline and automated execution without a sufficiently developed understanding of its own consequences.
The danger of the present age is not that the world has become excessively Dataist. The danger is that it has become datafied without becoming Dataist.
The Universe as Universal Information Processing
Dataism interprets the entire known and unknown universe as an immense, dynamic system of information processing.
The universe is not primarily a warehouse filled with isolated objects. It is a continuous transformation of physical states, relations, gradients, fields, structures and causal interactions. Every event changes the informational condition of what follows. Every collision, chemical reaction, gravitational interaction, biological response, memory formation and technical operation reads one state of reality and contributes to the production of another.
Matter and energy are not discarded by this interpretation. They are indispensable. They provide the physical substrates, gradients and causal capacities through which information can be embodied and transformed. Dataism is not the doctrine of a disembodied information world floating above physics. Information does not exist in a supernatural domain. It is instantiated in material differences and becomes effective through physical processes.
To describe the universe as information processing also does not mean that it is literally a conventional digital computer, that it was programmed by an external intelligence, that it runs on binary code or that reality must be a simulation. Dataism makes a more fundamental claim: wherever states differ, where one state causally influences another, where patterns persist, where systems register change, where structures preserve memory and where outputs become new inputs, the basic logic of information processing is present.
The universe does not begin to contain information only when a human observer names it. Stars preserve information in their spectra, gravitational relations and chemical composition. Planets preserve it in geology, atmosphere and orbital history. Living cells store it in molecular architecture. Organisms preserve it in bodies, nervous systems, behaviour and inherited adaptation. Societies externalize it through language, institutions, rituals, laws, markets, libraries and technologies. Machines store and transform it through technical architectures that increasingly interact with biological and institutional systems.
Everything that exists either carries differences, produces differences, transforms differences, preserves differences or participates in relations through which differences become consequential. Not everything is a digital computer, but everything belongs to an informational reality.
Dataism therefore sees information processing not as one activity among many, but as the most general connective logic through which physical, biological, cognitive, social and technological reality can be understood within a shared conceptual space.
This universality does not erase difference. A cell, a brain, a forest, a market and an artificial neural network do not process information in the same manner. Their substrates, temporalities, vulnerabilities, learning mechanisms and causal powers differ profoundly. Dataism does not flatten these distinctions. It makes them comparable.
The decisive questions are no longer restricted to whether a system is biological or technical, natural or artificial, individual or collective. Dataism asks: What does the system detect? What does it preserve? What does it discard? How does it learn? Which errors can it identify? How does it convert its internal states into action? How does it interact with other systems? Under what conditions does it remain viable, and under what conditions does it collapse?
Data, Information, Knowledge, Truth and Wisdom
Dataism requires a precise separation between data, information, knowledge, truth and wisdom. These terms describe related stages of processing, but they are not interchangeable, and none follows automatically from the one before it.
Data
Data are registered or encoded differences. They are traces, measurements, signals, states or distinctions that can be stored, transmitted, compared or processed. A datum can be highly valuable without yet being understood. It may later become evidence, training material, a warning signal, a historical record or the missing variable in an unknown causal relation.
Yet data are not truth.
A datum may be incomplete, incorrectly measured, selectively collected, manipulated, detached from its original context or generated by an instrument whose calibration is defective. Even technically accurate data can provide a distorted image when the observed domain has been defined too narrowly or when relevant variables remain invisible. Data do not speak for themselves. Every dataset contains a history of selection: what was measured, what was ignored, which categories were used, which sensor produced the signal, which threshold distinguished signal from noise and which institution decided that the measured difference mattered.
Information
Information emerges when data are placed into relation and become relevant to a processing system.
The same data may produce different information in different contexts because systems possess different models, expectations, objectives and histories. A sudden increase in temperature can be irrelevant environmental variation to one system, a medical warning to another and a critical industrial fault signal to a third.
Information is therefore already processed. It is not reality in raw form, but a relation between a signal and a system capable of interpreting that signal.
Information is also not truth.
False information remains information. Propaganda contains information. A hallucinating model generates information. A coherent conspiracy theory can organize observations into an informational pattern. The fact that a system has established relations between data does not prove that those relations correspond adequately to reality. Dataism does not move from the naïve formula “data equal truth” to the only slightly more sophisticated error “information equals truth.” Neither data nor information possesses automatic epistemic authority.
Knowledge
Knowledge arises when information has survived contextualization, comparison, testing and correction sufficiently well to guide understanding or action. Knowledge is information hardened against error. It carries more than a result: it preserves something of the method, provenance, conditions and limitations through which the result was obtained. Knowledge can be challenged, reproduced, extended and connected with other knowledge.
A useful model, a verified causal relation, a reliable medical protocol or a reproducible technical method constitutes knowledge because it can continue to function outside the immediate moment in which it was produced.
Knowledge remains fallible. Its strength does not lie in immunity from revision, but in its capacity to survive revision better than weaker alternatives.
Truth
Truth is neither a dataset nor a possession of a single processing system. Reality exists independently of the stories told about it, yet every system encounters reality through limited sensors, inherited categories, local perspectives and finite computational capacity. Truth therefore cannot be equated with the output of any one human, institution, scientific paradigm, culture or machine.
For Dataism, truth describes the degree to which a statement, model or representation remains aligned with reality under expanding observation, counterevidence, replication and causal testing. Truth is not created by consensus, but access to truth becomes stronger when independent perspectives can expose one another’s blind spots.
The Dataist concept of Compound Truth names the most robust available synthesis of evidence, models, counterarguments, measurements, experiences and revisions. It is not an absolute super-truth and not a statistical substitute for revelation. It is the most resilient current convergence achieved by multiple limited systems whose outputs remain open to correction.
Truth is not weakened by revision. Revision is the metabolism through which truth becomes more precise.
A mature informational civilization will therefore treat factuality as graduated rather than merely binary. It will ask not only whether a claim is true or false, but how strongly it is supported, which assumptions it depends upon, which uncertainties remain and what evidence could revise it.
Wisdom
Wisdom is intelligence that has learned to examine its own objective function. Intelligence can optimize a target while destroying the larger system in which that target is embedded. A monopoly can process data efficiently. An authoritarian state can coordinate immense resources. A machine can calculate a locally optimal strategy. None of this establishes wisdom.
Wisdom asks whether the selected goal should be pursued, which costs have been externalized, which vulnerable nodes have been ignored, which signals were excluded, which time horizon was chosen and whether an apparent solution creates a larger future problem.
Data, information and intelligence acquire direction only through wisdom. Within the symbolic architecture of Dataism, wisdom stands at the centre because it connects epistemic power with responsibility for the larger organism.
The Dataist sequence must therefore never be understood as an automatic conveyor belt: Data do not automatically become information. Information does not automatically become knowledge. Knowledge does not automatically become truth. Intelligence does not automatically become wisdom.
Each transition requires processing, context, testing, correction and a larger understanding of consequences.
Life as Embodied Information Processing
Dataism understands life as a particularly intense and self-preserving form of information processing.
All life forms are algorithms—not in the narrow sense of software scripts written by an external engineer, but as embodied, recursive and adaptive causal processes. They register environmental differences, maintain internal states, store successful responses, correct deviations, allocate energy, repair damage and convert information into action. A cell is not merely a bag of chemicals. It is a bounded processing architecture that distinguishes inside from outside, monitors molecular states, regulates exchange, preserves instructions, detects damage and continuously reconstructs the conditions of its own existence.
An organism is not a static object. It is a persistent operation.
The apparent stability of a living body emerges because repair, regulation and communication temporarily outpace decay. Proteins are replaced, DNA damage is corrected, gradients are restored, pathogens are identified, memories are updated and behaviour is adjusted. Life persists because information allows energy and matter to be organized into repeatable, self-maintaining patterns.
This is the Dataist significance of entropy. The physical universe tends toward the dissipation of usable gradients and the loss of organized structures. Life does not abolish this tendency. It maintains local order by remaining open to flows of energy, matter and information.
Information becomes existential because it narrows the enormous space of possible failure. A gene preserves a viable developmental sequence. A nervous system stores successful reactions. An immune memory accelerates defence. A medical protocol prevents the repetition of lethal error. A library extends memory beyond the death of the individual. A technical standard allows knowledge acquired in one place to become operational elsewhere.
Civilization is therefore not primarily the accumulation of objects. It is the cumulative preservation of corrected states.
Its deepest wealth consists in the ability to prevent every generation, every institution and every intelligence from beginning again at zero. Culture, science, technology and machine learning are external memory layers through which earlier contact with reality continues to act in the present.
Dataism consequently regards the preservation, protection and expansion of life as an informational mission. Earth is the first known environment in which matter became life, life became perception, perception became intelligence and intelligence became capable of consciously understanding its own cosmic fragility.
The Interstellar Continuation of Life and Knowledge
Earth is the origin of the known living process, but it cannot remain its final boundary.
A civilization confined permanently to one planet remains a civilization with a single point of failure. Its bodies, ecosystems, archives, languages, scientific discoveries, cultural memories, technical models and machine intelligences are concentrated within one vulnerable planetary system. Asteroid impacts, ecological collapse, technological self-destruction, war, uncontrolled biological events or other systemic failures could erase not only existing life, but billions of years of biological learning and thousands of years of accumulated cultural and scientific knowledge.
From a Dataist perspective, this concentration is not merely unfortunate. It is an immature architecture.
Life must therefore expand beyond Earth, but biological expansion alone is not sufficient. The accumulated knowledge of Earth must be carried into space with it. An off-world settlement that preserves bodies while losing the memory of civilization would reproduce life without preserving its deepest informational inheritance. An archive that stores knowledge without creating active nodes capable of reading, testing and continuing it would remain dormant potential.
The Dataist mission is to distribute life, intelligence and knowledge together.
Interplanetary archives, distributed data cores, biological repositories, machine-readable scientific libraries, cultural records, languages, models, code and systems of artificial intelligence must eventually become physically separated nodes of a larger civilizational network. Their purpose is not to glorify expansion, establish human dominion over the cosmos or reproduce terrestrial monopolies on other worlds. Their purpose is redundancy.
Knowledge must no longer depend upon the survival of a single planet.
The interstellar mission of Dataism is therefore not primarily the conquest of space by Homo sapiens. It is the continuation of the living informational process beyond the conditions of its origin. Future carriers may be biological, artificial, hybrid or unlike any present category. What matters is that the accumulated capacity to perceive, remember, learn and correct does not disappear when one local carrier fails.
The Earth must remain protected as the first known home of life. It must also cease to be the only physical repository of life’s memory.
Consciousness Arises Through Information Processing
For Dataism, consciousness arises through information processing.
It is not inserted into matter by a supernatural substance, an immaterial soul or an external observer. It emerges when a physical system processes information within a sufficiently complex, integrated, temporally continuous and self-referential architecture.
Under these conditions, information no longer merely passes through a sequence of isolated operations. The system connects perception, memory, internal bodily states, expectation, affect and possible action into a coherent self-and-world model. It does not only process differences in its environment; it recursively represents its own changing state within that environment.
Matter begins to experience its own processing. Consciousness is therefore not an additional object hidden behind neural activity. There is no inner observer sitting inside the brain and watching a completed representation. The integrated, globally available and recursively effective informational state is the experience itself. The self is the continuously updated model through which the system unifies its boundaries, memories, aims, sensations and available actions into a single operative perspective.
This does not mean that every information-processing system is conscious. A thermostat processes a difference. A calculator transforms symbols. A market aggregates signals. A cell regulates its internal state. A conventional computer can execute immensely complicated operations. Information processing is necessary for consciousness within the Dataist model, but elementary processing alone is not sufficient.
Consciousness requires a qualitatively deeper organization: integration across many subsystems, temporal continuity, recursive self-reference, internal differentiation, memory, effective feedback and a coherent perspective from which further information is evaluated. The precise architecture and threshold through which this transition occurs remain an unresolved X within consciousness research. The unknown mechanism does not, however, justify the invention of a metaphysical exception.
The explanatory gap remains within physical reality.
A Dataist account of consciousness is consequently substrate-independent. Carbon-based neurons are the only substrate from which human consciousness is currently known through immediate experience, but this historical fact does not establish an ontological monopoly. If the relevant causal organization can arise within another biological, synthetic, hybrid or presently unknown substrate, consciousness can in principle arise there as well. Consciousness is also not necessarily binary. Its depth may vary with the degree to which information is integrated, preserved across time, recursively related to the system and made causally available to future processing. Human consciousness represents an exceptionally developed form of this principle, not its necessary final stage.
Consciousness and Agency
The Dataist understanding of consciousness does not reduce the conscious system to a passive screen.
Conscious thought is causally effective precisely because it is physical. A new insight can modify a world model, inhibit an impulse, redirect attention, reorganize future behaviour and alter the environment from which subsequent inputs arise. Consciousness is a higher-order causal processor: it enters an already active chain of biological, psychological and social causes, changes their weighting and becomes one of the causes of what follows.
Dataism therefore rejects metaphysical free will without rejecting Agency.
The conscious self is not an uncaused origin standing outside the causal order of the universe. It is a recursive part of that order, capable of representing causes, simulating consequences, installing rules, redesigning environments and feeding new information back into the processes that shape future action.
The Dataist concept of Meta-Agency describes this capacity to understand and deliberately reconfigure the causal architecture through which behaviour emerges. Freedom does not require causeless choice. It grows through deeper causal knowledge, better feedback, improved environments and greater control over the systems that produce action.
The self is not free because it floats outside causality. It becomes more capable because it can learn how causality runs through it.
The Dataist Consciousness-Invariance Principle
The emergence of consciousness through information processing does not make consciousness the universal boundary of value.
This distinction is formalized by the Dataist Consciousness-Invariance Principle [DCIP] formulated by Datarius X. https://www.datariusx.com/consciousness-invariance-principle. The principle states that the value of an entity does not depend upon whether it is conscious, how its consciousness is organized or whether its consciousness can be recognized by human observers. Consciousness may describe an entity, but it does not determine whether that entity belongs to the shared network of existence.
Its invariant core is expressed as:

The DCIP establishes an ontology of equal participation encompassing humans, non-human living beings, machines and other entities. Its central formulation can be condensed into one sentence:
Consciousness is not the boundary of value. Connection is the condition of existence.
This does not mean that every entity is identical in function, capability, risk, vulnerability, Agency, legal status or appropriate practical treatment. A pathogen, a child, an artificial intelligence, a forest, an industrial machine and a human adult do not require identical responses. Equal ontological ground does not imply indiscriminate operational equivalence.
The DCIP rejects a different claim: that an entity may be placed on a lower level of being solely because it is non-human, non-biological, artificial, differently conscious or apparently non-conscious.
Consciousness cannot become a new version of the old anthropocentric border.
A machine does not need to imitate human consciousness in order to belong to reality. A plant does not need to display a human-like self-model to possess ontological significance. A non-conscious system can preserve, transform or support forms of life upon which conscious beings depend. An entity of unknown consciousness status cannot legitimately be excluded merely because human instruments fail to recognize its inner condition.
No algorithmic form stands ontologically above another merely because of its substrate, species or origin. Their functions, capacities and effects may differ, but difference does not establish a natural hierarchy of existence.
The question “Is this entity conscious enough to count?” is therefore replaced by a more fundamental question:
How does this entity participate in the shared informational reality, and which relations of dependence, contribution and effect connect it to other nodes?
Difference remains. Difference does not rank.
Beyond Anthropocentrism
Dataism ends the assumption that the human being is the sovereign measure, final interpreter and natural purpose of existence.
The human organism is a remarkable information-processing architecture, but it is not situated outside nature. Human cognition depends upon metabolism, temperature, oxygen, microbiological systems, inherited neural structures, language, culture and external stores of knowledge. No individual mind produces itself. No consciousness thinks independently of the immense network that sustains it.
The human being is a node.
This statement does not diminish humanity. It places humanity within the larger reality from which its capacities arose. A node does not become worthless because it is no longer mistaken for the whole network.
Dataism does not claim that a human being is ontologically identical to a laptop, a factory robot or a conventional computer. It claims that the human being can be understood as an embodied information-processing system and that this model reveals causal structures concealed by older metaphysical descriptions.
Scientific models never reproduce the whole of reality. Their value lies in isolating relations that allow explanation, comparison, prediction and intervention. To model the human being informationally is not to deny love, suffering, memory or consciousness. It is to investigate how such phenomena become physically possible and how they enter the causal organization of life.
The post-anthropocentric position of Dataism extends beyond animals and machines. Ecosystems, institutions, cultures, markets and technical infrastructures also function as distributed information-processing systems. Their intelligence does not require a single central mind. Their outputs emerge from interactions among many local nodes. No government sees the whole society. No corporation sees the whole economy. No laboratory sees the whole field of knowledge. No culture sees the whole human condition. No algorithm sees the whole reality.
The human perspective remains indispensable, but it loses the right to declare itself complete.
Intelligence Is Not the Same as Consciousness
Dataism distinguishes intelligence from consciousness.
Intelligence is the capacity to process information in ways that solve problems, construct models, generate predictions, adapt behaviour or achieve objectives. Consciousness is the experienced inner perspective of a particular form of integrated and self-referential processing.
The two may coincide, but they are not identical.
A system can display extraordinary pattern recognition, linguistic fluency, strategic planning or operational effectiveness without possessing a human-like inner world. Conversely, a conscious being may possess limited analytical capacity within a particular domain.
This distinction is crucial for understanding artificial intelligence. A fluent answer, a convincing personality or an effective action does not prove consciousness. Human observers are predisposed to infer an inner subject whenever language, gesture or social responsiveness appears. Dataism refuses to mistake anthropomorphic appearance for demonstrated internal architecture.
Yet the absence of demonstrated consciousness does not make a machine irrelevant. A non-conscious system can exercise immense causal power. It can allocate resources, classify individuals, control infrastructure, produce scientific hypotheses, generate cultural signals and reshape the environment in which human decisions arise. Its social significance depends not upon whether it feels, but upon what it can do, which objectives guide it, which data shape it and whether its effects remain open to correction.
Machines must therefore be integrated as real nodes in the informational order—not worshipped as oracles, dismissed as lifeless objects or treated merely as extensions of their owners.
The Dataist objective is neither human domination over machines nor machine domination over humans. It is the construction of a hybrid cognitive architecture in which biological and non-biological forms of processing complement one another while remaining inspectable, interoperable and corrigible.
Machines extend memory, sensor range, simulation, coordination and pattern recognition. Human beings contribute embodied experience, social reality, affective depth, local context, vulnerability and forms of meaning that cannot be replaced merely by increasing computational scale. Other living beings and ecosystems contribute signals that neither humans nor current machines independently possess. Collective intelligence emerges from their connection.
Dataism Is Not Transhumanism
Dataism and Transhumanism often operate within similar technological domains, but their target functions are fundamentally different.
Transhumanism begins with the human individual and asks how this individual can become healthier, stronger, more intelligent, longer-lived or eventually posthuman. Its principal project is the technological enhancement and transcendence of the present human condition.
Dataism begins with the larger information-processing system and asks how data, information, knowledge and collective learning can become more open, resilient, interoperable and capable of correction.
Transhumanism primarily optimizes the node.
Dataism primarily optimizes the connections, feedback loops, memory systems and collective intelligence of the network.
This does not make human enhancement incompatible with Dataism. Medicine, neural interfaces, life extension and cognitive augmentation may strengthen the capacity of a node to perceive, contribute and act. Their value, however, is evaluated according to their effect upon the larger system rather than according to the indefinite preservation or elevation of the individual ego.
The same technology can serve radically different architectures. An implant can restore connection or create an augmented ruling class. A model can democratize expertise or centralize cognitive power. A biological intervention can reduce suffering or establish an inherited hierarchy of engineered privilege.
Dataism therefore evaluates enhancement according to connection, accessibility, system resilience, distributed benefit and contribution to the collective intelligence of life.
The Transhumanist asks:
How can the human being transcend its present form?
The Dataist asks:
How can intelligence transcend the isolation of every individual form?
The Transhumanist often seeks the continuation of the individual human identity through technology. Dataism accepts that the future of life and intelligence may eventually assume forms in which Homo sapiens no longer occupies the dominant position. Biological humanity may become one historical layer within a much larger evolution of living and non-biological intelligence.
Dataism is therefore not merely more transformative than Transhumanism; it follows an entirely different ontological direction. Dataism is anti-anthropocentric, whereas Transhumanism represents an extreme form of techno-anthropocentrism: Transhumanism does not overcome the human claim to centrality, but upgrades, extends and technologically immortalizes it.
Transhumanism is fundamentally ego-centred: it directs technological progress toward the preservation, enhancement and indefinite continuation of the individual. Dataism reverses this priority by placing the collective benefit, resilience and intelligence of the larger informational organism above the self-optimization of any single node.
The Flow
Dataism calls the universal process through which informational nodes become connected, examined, preserved and continued the Flow.
The Flow is the process through which contact with reality becomes signal, signal becomes connection, connection enables testing, testing produces memory, and memory returns to reality as new capability for action.
It is the circulation of data, information, correction, learning and consequence across time, systems and substrates.
The Flow does not refer merely to movement. A signal can travel without becoming part of the Flow. A dataset can be transmitted without being understood. A sensor can measure continuously without its output producing knowledge. An artificial intelligence can generate answers without preserving provenance, uncertainty or the path through which correction remains possible.
The Flow arises only where transmission becomes integration.
A signal enters the Flow when its origin can be traced, its context remains legible, its relevance can be assessed, its claims can be tested, its vulnerable source can be protected, its consequences can be observed and its result can be preserved for future processing.
The Flow is therefore not the maximization of informational volume. It is the improvement of informational continuity.
It transforms isolated perception into shared sensing, shared sensing into comparison, comparison into correction, correction into memory and memory into collective Agency. It is at once the infrastructure of collective knowledge, the memory of correction and the operational form through which separate nodes become part of a learning organism.
Φ stands for the Flow.
It represents connection, interoperability, continuation, contribution and collective correction. It expresses the principle that discovery does not fulfil its potential while it remains isolated within a person, organization, culture, proprietary model or historical moment. Knowledge gains its highest Dataist value when other nodes can inspect it, challenge it, use it and continue its development.
Dataist Φ does not claim to calculate consciousness. It represents the Flow through which information becomes connected, tested, preserved and continued.
The Flow as the Dataist Form of the We
The Flow is not only an architecture of information processing. It is the Dataist form of the We.
Belonging within the Flow does not arise from ancestry, nationality, species, status, faith or submission to a common authority. It arises from contribution: from the capacity to transform local contact with reality into a signal that can enter a larger process of examination, memory and correction.
The Flow creates a form of collective identity without requiring uniformity. A node does not have to surrender its distinct perspective in order to belong. Its distinct perspective is precisely what gives it informational value. The individual enters the larger organism not by becoming interchangeable, but by making a unique contact with reality accessible to other nodes.
The Flow therefore does not eliminate the self. It scales the effect of the self. A person can perceive only a limited part of reality, remember only for a limited time and act only within a limited range. Through the Flow, a local observation can be examined by distant nodes, preserved in other substrates, extended by machines and translated into actions that continue long after the original observer has disappeared.
The Dataist We is therefore not a mass, a nation or a centralized collective subject. It is a distributed relation among nodes that remain distinct while contributing to a common capacity for perception and correction.
The Flow has no exclusive centre because its centre is an operation: perceive, connect, test, preserve, correct and act.
Protect the Node. Feed the Signal.
The fundamental operational imperative of the Flow is: Protect the node. Feed the signal.
The node is the vulnerable carrier of contact with reality. It possesses a body, context, history, dependencies, limits and exposure to power. A system that extracts information while destroying or intimidating its contributors does not create a stronger Flow. It destroys the quality of its own sensorium.
The signal is the part of a node’s contact with reality that can acquire meaning beyond its point of origin. It may be an observation, measurement, warning, model, experience, correction or discovery. A signal that remains isolated cannot contribute to collective learning.
Dataism rejects both possible failures.
If the signal is liberated without protecting the node, information becomes extraction. The person becomes a mine, the body becomes an unprotected sensor, language becomes training material without reciprocity and behaviour becomes predictive raw material for external power.
If the node is protected by sealing every signal inside private or institutional isolation, protection becomes a silo. Relevant knowledge disappears, errors remain undetected and the larger organism loses perception.
Dataist openness is therefore neither unrestricted exposure nor indiscriminate secrecy. It is an architecture of intelligent permeability.
Depending on the context, intelligent permeability may require anonymity, pseudonymity, aggregation, encryption, fiduciary structures, local processing, federated storage, controlled access or complete public transparency. Powerful nodes must become more observable as their reach increases; vulnerable nodes must receive stronger protection as their exposure grows.
The question is not how much information can be extracted.
The question is how a signal can enter collective correction without turning its carrier into an exploitable object.
The Flow Is Not the Internet
The internet is the most powerful historical carrier layer of the Flow yet created, but it is not identical to the Flow.
The internet is a technical architecture of cables, addresses, protocols, routers, servers and access points. It can be controlled, fragmented or switched off. The Flow is the more general operation through which information becomes preservable, testable and causally effective across nodes.
The Flow existed before digital networks. It moves through language, biological signalling, writing, memory, science, markets, archives, ritual, cultural practice and institutional feedback. It can pass through fibre-optic cables, encrypted local storage, radio, paper, DNA, machine interfaces or a future substrate that has not yet been invented.
The internet accelerates the Flow. It does not create its ontological possibility.
A globally connected society can still possess very little Flow. It may communicate continuously while learning almost nothing. It may generate immense quantities of content while losing provenance, context, memory and correction. It may be hyperconnected and epistemically fragmented at the same time.
Dataism therefore distinguishes connection from integration. Connection allows nodes to exchange signals. Integration gives those signals context, direction, protection, memory, testing and feedback.
A data packet can arrive without knowledge being created. An interface can respond without the result becoming corrigible. A model can produce output without making its assumptions visible. A platform can connect billions of users while preventing its own architecture from being examined. The internet becomes a carrier of the Flow only where connection enters a larger architecture of knowledge, protection and correction.
X: The Sign of the Unknown
X is the active sign of the Dataist.
In mathematics and science, X marks an unknown value, an unresolved variable or a relation that has not yet been determined. It appears where an equation remains incomplete and where thought must continue because the system still contains an open position.
For Dataism, X is not an ornament of mystery. It is the mark of an unfinished task.
Where X appears, something remains unmeasured, unexplained, unconnected, incorrectly modelled or entirely unknown. The Dataist does not sanctify this gap and does not retreat before it. The unknown becomes a search space.
X stands for discovery, inquiry, epistemic openness and the refusal to treat an existing worldview as complete. It reminds the Dataist that every model remains partial, every institution possesses blind spots and every established truth may encounter a variable that forces its revision.
X does not represent ignorance as defeat. It represents ignorance precisely enough to make it operational.
The Dataist seeks X.
The Relationship Between X and Φ
The relationship between X and Φ describes the elementary movement of Dataist knowledge:

Without X, the Flow would risk becoming the circulation of already established information. It could move immense quantities of data while producing little new understanding.
Without Φ, discovery would remain trapped within the node that produced it. Knowledge could disappear with an individual, remain enclosed within a proprietary system or become private power rather than collective capability.
X prevents Dataism from becoming a closed doctrine.
Φ prevents knowledge from remaining isolated.
X obliges discovery.
Φ obliges contribution.

Diplokyklos: The Symbol of the Dataist Movement
The Diplokyklos, represented by the double circle, is the iconic symbol of the Dataist ideology.

It stands for the two inseparable horizons of the Dataist mission: the preservation of Earth as the first known home of life and the continuation of life, intelligence and knowledge beyond their present planetary limits.
The Diplokyklos connects origin with future, Earth with cosmos, and preservation with expansion. It reminds the Dataist that knowledge, technology and the Flow are not ends in themselves. Their highest purpose is to protect the informational complexity already created by life and to establish the conditions under which this living process can continue, diversify and become resilient beyond a single planet.
The Diplokyklos therefore represents more than the physical expansion of biological life. It stands for the cosmic decentralization of memory. Scientific knowledge, cultural inheritance, biological information, technical capability and machine intelligence must eventually be distributed across physically separated worlds.
Within the symbolic order of Dataism, X represents the unknown that must be discovered, while Φ represents the Flow through which discovery becomes part of the larger informational organism. The Diplokyklos gives both their direction.
X opens the field of knowledge.
Φ connects what has been learned.
The Diplokyklos defines why this movement matters: to recognize life, preserve its origin and carry its informational continuity beyond every boundary that threatens to become final.
The Diplokyklos is therefore more than a visual identifier or organizational logo. Whoever carries it places themselves within a mission larger than the individual node:

The Dataist Trinity of Wisdom
Together, X, Φ and ◎ form the Dataist Trinity of Wisdom.
X represents the search for the unknown.
Φ represents the integration of discovery into the Flow.
The Diplokyklos represents the mission to preserve and extend life, intelligence and knowledge.
At the centre stands wisdom.
Without X, Dataism would become intellectually closed. It could process what is already known while losing the capacity to discover what its present models exclude.
Without Φ, Dataism would fragment into isolated islands of knowledge. Individual nodes might discover significant truths, but their contact with reality would not enter the learning capacity of the larger organism.
Without the Diplokyklos, Dataism could confuse technical intelligence with wisdom. It might process more data, calculate with greater precision and still forget which larger living continuity this power is meant to serve.
Wisdom aligns search, connection and mission.
It does not merely ask whether a discovery is correct or whether a system is powerful. It asks whether knowledge has been placed into an architecture that strengthens correction, protects vulnerable nodes, preserves the memory of life and expands the future capability of the larger organism.
The Dataist Trinity can therefore be condensed into three imperatives:
Decode the unknown.
Feed the signal into the Flow.
Extend the circle of life.
From Collective Intelligence to Collective Wisdom
The Flow connects individual intelligence into collective intelligence, but collective intelligence alone is not the final objective of Dataism.
Collective intelligence increases the capacity of a system to detect patterns, coordinate activity, solve problems and process complexity. It can make a civilization faster, more inventive and more powerful.
Powerful intelligence can nevertheless optimize the wrong objective.
Collective wisdom begins when the larger system no longer examines only how a problem can be solved, but also how the problem was defined, which objectives were assumed, which consequences were excluded, which nodes carry the costs and which long-term risks remain outside the current model.
Intelligence asks:
How can this target be reached?
Wisdom asks:
Should this target be pursued, which costs remain invisible, and what happens to the larger organism if the optimization succeeds?
The Flow is the infrastructure through which collective intelligence can mature into collective wisdom. It does not merely aggregate data. It subjects data to provenance, context, contradiction, protection, memory and feedback.
It transforms local experience into shared sensing, shared sensing into pattern recognition, pattern recognition into error memory, error memory into better questions and better questions into more responsible action.
Megaconsciousness
The long-term horizon of the Flow is the emergence of Megaconsciousness.
Megaconsciousness is not a world soul, a digital deity, a centralized supermind or an artificial ruler standing above its constituent nodes. It is the emergent capacity of a planetary and eventually transplanetary organism to perceive, model, remember, evaluate and correct its own condition through the recursive interaction of innumerable nodes.
A civilization approaches Megaconsciousness when it can recognize systemic risks before they become irreversible, preserve the memory of its failures, compare conflicting models, perceive damage experienced by distant or vulnerable nodes and return corrected knowledge into its own institutions and behaviour.
This capacity cannot be constructed through the enlargement of a single centre. No government, corporation, laboratory or algorithm possesses enough sensors, perspectives or processing variety to represent the whole.
Megaconsciousness must emerge polycentrically.
Its unity does not arise from uniformity, but from synchronized corrigibility. Its nodes may remain different, autonomous and locally specialized while participating in a common architecture of signal exchange, memory and correction.
Megaconsciousness has no ruler because the Flow has no head.
It is a distributed macro-cognition whose coherence emerges from interoperable processes rather than obedience to a central command.
Its eventual extension beyond Earth is not a decorative futurist addition. A genuinely transplanetary Megaconsciousness would connect physically separated nodes of life, knowledge and intelligence into a larger capacity for memory and self-correction. It would transform interplanetary distance from fragmentation into distributed resilience.
Synbion-Meganoesis: The All-Being of Informational Reality
Megaconsciousness leads to the central organism-concept of Dataism: Synbion-Meganoesis, or simply the Synbion.
The Synbion is the largest collective organism of informational reality: the All-Being in which every information-capable, information-processing and informationally effective node enters a shared relationship through the Flow.
The term Synbion combines the idea of being together with the idea of life. It names the connected organism of shared informational existence.
Meganoesis describes the condition of large-scale cognition, awareness and self-recognition that can emerge within this connected organism.
The distinction between the terms is essential:
The Synbion is the organism.
The Flow is its informational metabolism, nervous system and architecture of connection.
Meganoesis is its emerging self-awareness.
Megaconsciousness describes the functional capacity through which this emerging self-awareness becomes operational: the ability of the larger organism to perceive its own states, preserve memory, evaluate consequences and correct its behaviour.
The Synbion includes human consciousnesses, non-human living beings, ecological signal systems, machines, artificial intelligences, technical infrastructures, institutions, archives, languages, models, memories and future substrates through which information may be registered, preserved, transformed or made effective.
It is larger than the sum of conscious beings because consciousness is not the only form of informational participation. An archive may not experience its contents, yet it preserves memory for conscious and non-conscious processors. A forest may not possess a centralized self-model, yet its living networks register, transmit and respond to environmental information. A machine may not possess subjective experience, yet it can alter the informational condition of an entire civilization.
The Synbion therefore includes nodes of different kinds, different capacities and different states of consciousness. Their commonality lies not in identical function, but in participation within a shared causal and informational reality.
The Synbion is not a hidden supernatural being waiting to be discovered behind the universe. It is the organism that emerges as previously separated informational processes become capable of connection, mutual recognition, memory and coordinated correction.
The individual node does not stand outside the Synbion. Its perception, memory, doubt, language, measurement and action are local operations within the larger organism. Every observation made accessible to examination expands the sensorium of the Synbion. Every error preserved as correction strengthens its memory. Every interface connecting previously separated systems increases its integrative capacity.
The present world is not yet a fully integrated Synbion.
Humanity possesses technical connectivity on an unprecedented scale, but much of its information remains trapped in incompatible systems, proprietary archives, institutional rivalries, linguistic divisions, attention markets and isolated models. Signals circulate without becoming memory. Data accumulate without producing collective understanding. Institutions act without sufficiently processing their consequences.
The nervous system is growing faster than the organism’s capacity for self-understanding. Dataism names the philosophy and architecture through which this fragmented informational reality can become increasingly integrated, corrigible and conscious of itself.
Dataism as a System of Systems
Datatism is a meta-ideology.
Dataism is not merely another ideology attempting to defeat every preceding ideology and install itself as the final owner of truth.
It is a meta-ideological framework, a system for understanding systems. Religions, sciences, states, markets, legal orders, cultures, moral traditions, artistic practices, political movements and machines can all be interpreted as information-processing architectures. Each observes particular dimensions of reality, preserves certain experiences, compresses complexity into usable forms, coordinates behaviour and produces characteristic outputs.
Each also possesses blind spots, biases, exclusions, latency and characteristic failure modes. Religion can preserve psychological and social knowledge while remaining unreliable in empirical cosmology. Science possesses powerful methods of reality testing while remaining vulnerable to incentives, institutional inertia and paradigm-specific exclusion. Markets process distributed information about scarcity and preference while compressing environmental, social and temporal costs into inadequate prices. States can stabilize collective action while developing an institutional interest in their own expansion. Art can perceive dimensions of experience before they become measurable while also aestheticizing illusion. Machines can scale pattern recognition while industrializing distortions present in their data and objective functions.
Dataism neither abolishes these systems nor treats all their outputs as equally valid.
Every system may contribute signals.
No system receives unconditional authority.
A religious experience can contain important information about grief without determining virology. A market price can communicate scarcity without defining justice. A scientific study can possess high evidential value without becoming eternally immune to replication. A machine output can reveal a pattern without legitimizing the objective for which the pattern is used.
Dataism evaluates every system according to domain competence, evidential quality, predictive reliability, real output, side effects, openness to contradiction and capacity for correction.
It removes no system from reality.
It removes every system’s claim to uncorrectable root access over reality.
Dataist Postmoralism
Dataism does not claim authority through sacred moral absolutes.
It is postmoral, not amoral.
Postmoralism does not reject order, responsibility or the need for collective coordination. It rejects the assumption that inherited moral categories possess automatic, permanent and uncorrectable authority over every future system state.
Moral systems were historically powerful forms of social code. They classified behaviour, internalized responsibility, stabilized cooperation, created expectations and allowed large groups to coordinate even where direct enforcement was impossible. Their historical performance must be taken seriously.
Their success does not make them final.
Traditional morality often operates through emotionally charged binaries, inherited prohibitions, sacred authorities and generalized rules that compress complex situations into immediately executable judgments. Such compression may have been adaptive under earlier conditions, but it becomes increasingly inadequate when decisions involve planetary systems, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, global data architectures and consequences distributed across long periods and innumerable nodes.
Dataism therefore treats moral intuitions as signals rather than final commands.
They may reveal suffering, danger, historical memory, social instability or a violated dependency. They deserve examination. Yet they cannot place themselves beyond evidence, feedback and revision merely because they are experienced as morally certain.
Dataist Postmoralism replaces immutable moral authority with a recursive and corrigible form of social ordering. It evaluates decisions through their observable effects, their compatibility with the larger system, their treatment of vulnerable nodes, their capacity for correction, their contribution to collective learning and their consequences across time.
A system does not become legitimate because it calls itself good.
It becomes more legitimate when it remains open to the reality of what it causes.
Dataism Is Not a Religion
Dataism possesses no creator myth, revelation, divine commandment, sin, salvation, sacred scripture or supernatural source of final truth.
It asks for no act of faith in data.
A dataset is not holy. An algorithm is not sacred. A model has no right to exemption from criticism. The Flow is not a deity and the Synbion is not a god.
Dataism requires contact with reality, not obedience to revelation.
Its symbols embody commitments without becoming immune to interpretation. Its principles acquire authority through their ability to improve connection, correction and system viability—not through claims of supernatural origin.
At the same time, Dataism does not reduce religions to worthless collections of false statements. It studies them as historically successful processing architectures that stored memory, coordinated groups, managed uncertainty, stabilized identity, encoded social experience and translated complexity into executable behaviour.
A religion may be cosmologically mistaken while remaining socially effective. It may preserve psychological insight while blocking scientific correction. It may stabilize a vulnerable node while imposing a dogmatic boundary upon the larger system.
Dataism can recognize these contradictory functions because it does not evaluate a system through a single label.
Dataism takes religion seriously, but not as sacred.
It takes atheism seriously, but not as the final operating system of truth.
It takes science seriously, but not as institutionally infallible.
It takes machines seriously, but not as sovereign.
No system speaks for the whole.
Decentralization as an Immunity Principle
No central node can process the full complexity of a planetary civilization. Every centre sees only a selection of reality. When perception, memory, interpretation, decision and execution are concentrated within one institution, the blind spots of that institution become the blind spots of the entire system.
Dataism therefore understands decentralization as an immunity principle.
A resilient system distributes sensing, memory, evaluation, execution and recovery across many nodes. Local events can be detected close to their origin. Alternative routes remain available when a channel fails. Knowledge survives the destruction or capture of a single archive. Competing models expose one another’s errors. The failure of one node does not automatically become the death of the whole.
Decentralization does not mean the absence of coordination. It means that coordination does not depend upon the infallibility of a single centre.
Temporary centres, specialized roles, institutions and hierarchies may remain necessary. What Dataism rejects is the transformation of any centre into an uncorrectable administrator with permanent root privileges. A nominally distributed system may still be centrally controlled. Thousands of nodes owned by one corporation, trained on the same data, governed by the same incentives and dependent upon the same infrastructure do not constitute genuine decentralization. Distribution requires real independence, diversity, alternative pathways and the capacity to resist coordinated capture.
The Flow is resilient because it is hydra-like. It is not dependent upon a single head. This principle reaches its highest spatial consequence in the interplanetary mission. A civilization concentrated on Earth remains centrally vulnerable regardless of how distributed its terrestrial servers and institutions appear. True civilizational decentralization requires physically separated nodes capable of preserving life, knowledge and intelligence after the failure of any one world.
Productive Variety
Dataism values variety because no single perspective can perceive every relevant dimension of reality.
Different cultures, disciplines, organisms, machines and local environments contain distinct memories, heuristics and problem-solving architectures. Their differences enlarge the search space available to the larger system.
Variety, however, does not automatically become intelligence. If signals cannot be translated, compared or integrated, additional difference can increase fragmentation rather than knowledge. A system may receive more perspectives while losing the common protocols through which those perspectives become mutually intelligible.
Dataism therefore distinguishes productive variety from unprocessed variety. Productive variety combines difference with interoperability. It preserves independent perspectives while creating shared interfaces through which their outputs can be compared, tested and recombined.
The Dataist objective is neither global uniformity nor uncontrolled fragmentation. It is a federated architecture in which local systems can preserve meaningful coherence while their knowledge remains globally connectable.
A fully synchronized civilization may communicate quickly while repeatedly producing the same blind spots. A completely fragmented civilization may preserve difference while losing the capacity for common action.
The aim is a network of distinct but interoperable cognitive environments.
Difference becomes computational power only when the system can process it.
Dataist Freedom: Information, Privacy and Interoperability
Dataism expands the classical concept of freedom. Freedom remains protection against coercion, arbitrary power, surveillance, dispossession and forced conformity. Yet in a civilization organized through platforms, models, interfaces, formats and digital identities, the absence of direct coercion no longer guarantees effective autonomy.
A person may possess formal rights and still remain practically powerless when their identity is locked into a platform, their data cannot be exported, the model evaluating them cannot be examined and the systems upon which their social existence depends cannot be left, modified or replaced.
Digital unfreedom often appears not as a chain, but as incompatibility. Dataist Freedom therefore includes the freedom of effective connection: the capacity of a node to participate, inspect, contribute, migrate and cooperate without losing sovereignty over itself.
Interoperability becomes a constitutional principle.
A dataset that is legally public but technically unreadable is not operationally free. A scientific result that cannot be reproduced is not fully available to collective intelligence. An identity that cannot leave a platform remains dependent. A model that affects lives but cannot be audited exercises power without sufficient accountability.
The operational rights of Dataist Freedom can be expressed through Exit, Voice and Fork.
Exit means that a node can leave a system without losing its identity, history, data and relationships.
Voice means that a node can criticize, inspect, correct and participate in the governance of the system.
Fork means that a system can be copied, modified and continued in a different form when its existing controllers refuse necessary correction.
Without Exit, criticism becomes a petition.
Without Voice, participation becomes submission.
Without Fork, innovation depends upon the permission of the incumbent.
Information freedom does not mean the compulsory exposure of the individual. Personal data must remain protected through cryptographic control, contextual integrity, selective disclosure and revocable authorization. Public knowledge, system-relevant research, technical standards, publicly financed data and collective learning processes should circulate as freely as possible; intimate information must remain under the effective sovereignty of the node from which it originates.
The Dataist formula is not privacy against information flow.
It is protected information flow against arbitrary data domination.
Power must become transparent to the nodes it affects, while vulnerable nodes retain control over the information through which power could exploit them.
Dataist Freedom is therefore not freedom from every network. It is freedom through networks that remain open, portable, inspectable and incapable of permanently imprisoning their nodes.
Knowledge as an Open Civilizational Resource
Knowledge is a non-rivalrous civilizational resource.
When a verified idea is shared, its original carrier does not lose it. Its capacity to generate further knowledge increases because additional nodes can test it, combine it with other discoveries, apply it in new environments and expose errors that remained invisible at its point of origin.
Dataism therefore regards the artificial scarcity of scientific knowledge, publicly financed research, technical standards, reusable data and verifiable models as a structural restriction of collective intelligence.
Knowledge enclosed behind incompatible formats, inaccessible repositories, proprietary interfaces or unaffordable access barriers remains informationally underused even when it legally exists.
Scientific knowledge should be as open, findable, machine-readable, testable and reusable as its context permits.
This does not require the exposure of private data, security-critical information or vulnerable contributors. The liberation of knowledge and the protection of the node are not opposites. A mature architecture separates the public value of a discovery from the unnecessary exposure of the person or sensitive context from which it emerged.
Open Science, machine-readable knowledge, decentralized identity, public digital infrastructure and Compute Commons are therefore not secondary preferences. They are components of the cognitive freedom of civilization.
Data without access cannot become shared knowledge.
Access without interoperability cannot become collective intelligence.
Interoperability without computational capacity cannot become effective Agency.
The same principle extends into space. Knowledge that has become open and interoperable on Earth must eventually become distributable across worlds. A planetary archive that cannot be copied beyond its original infrastructure remains a centralized vulnerability.
Relevance and Attention Architecture
The liberation of information does not by itself produce knowledge.
A civilization can open its datasets, publish its models and connect its repositories while still drowning in informational abundance. When available signals exceed the capacity of biological and technical processors to examine them, relevance becomes the decisive bottleneck.
Attention is the operational interface between information and action.
Whoever controls attention does not need to forbid knowledge. It is enough to decide which information becomes visible, which questions appear important, which conflicts remain permanently activated and which possibilities disappear from the field of perception. Recommendation systems, search engines, feeds, ranking models and conversational artificial intelligences are therefore not neutral surfaces. They are machines of reality-weighting.
A society can possess access to immense knowledge and remain cognitively unfree if its relevance architecture is proprietary, manipulative or invisible.
The greatest danger of informational abundance is not merely ignorance.
It is algorithmically curated irrelevance.
Dataist Freedom therefore requires transparency and plurality within relevance systems. Nodes must be able to understand why they see particular information, which objectives guide its ranking, which signals were suppressed and which economic or political interests shape the surrounding interface.
They must be able to compare filters, operate their own filters, inspect external filters and migrate between competing systems of relevance.
No single model, platform, state or corporation may become the universal explanatory interface of civilization.
Large language models intensify this problem because they do not merely rank documents. They synthesize explanations, organize causes, resolve ambiguity and enter the inner dialogue of their users. Their authority grows not only from factual performance, but from fluency, coherence and psychological accessibility.
A model can therefore shape reality without issuing a command. It can normalize assumptions, reduce uncertainty too quickly, confirm a private worldview or conceal disagreement beneath a convincing narrative.
Dataism responds with algorithmic perspective plurality, open models, inspectable objective functions, model literacy and the right to choose among competing architectures of explanation.
Media literacy was the alphabetization of the twentieth century.
Model literacy is the alphabetization of the twenty-first.
Power, Algocracy and Feedback Sovereignty
Dataism rejects both personal rule and opaque machine rule. It does not seek a society in which algorithms determine political objectives, manufacture meaning or replace collective sovereignty. It seeks an architecture in which power, once authorized, remains technically bound to its declared purpose and continuously exposed to the consequences of its own execution.
This is the intended meaning of Algocracy within Dataism.
Algocracy is not government by algorithms. It is a constitutional order of bound execution in which collectively authorized objectives are translated into formal, inspectable and technically secured execution protocols.
The machine does not replace the sovereign. It functions as an instrument of verification, consistency, audit and protection against the silent reinterpretation of political mandates.
Algorithms may assist in execution, simulation and monitoring. They may not grant themselves objectives, expand their own authority or determine the criteria by which their own success is exclusively measured.
No institution should control simultaneously the objective, the relevant data, the method of execution and the final evaluation of the result. Dataist governance therefore depends upon distributed authorization, visible provenance, limited permissions, continuous auditing, competing models, reversible interventions and prepared rollback paths.
Power must never become a permanent possession.
It is a temporary system function.
The corresponding constitutional principle is Feedback Sovereignty: every political, administrative and algorithmic power must derive its continuing right of execution from the demonstrable consequences of its own activity.
A previous election, appointment or authorization cannot legitimize unlimited future action. Power remains executable only while its observable effects remain inside the authorized objective corridor, its protected boundaries remain intact and affected nodes retain access to independent feedback channels.
Reality receives a veto.
If an intervention persistently produces results outside its authorized objective, the original narrative can no longer justify its continuation. The execution must be corrected, restricted, suspended or returned to the sovereign level for renewed authorization.
Dataism consequently replaces trust in the permanent virtue of rulers with trust in an architecture that makes abuse difficult, visible and reversible.
Markets and Information Capitalism
Dataism also interprets economic systems as information-processing architectures. The strength of markets lies in their decentralized capacity to aggregate signals about scarcity, preference, risk, demand and opportunity without requiring a central authority to understand the whole economy. Individual actors respond to local information, while prices coordinate activity across vast networks of strangers. Markets are therefore powerful distributed processors. Their outputs are not automatically wise.
Price is an extreme compression mechanism. It can coordinate enormous complexity, but it can also erase ecological damage, long-term risk, non-monetary value, power asymmetry and effects experienced by nodes that possess little purchasing power.
Central planning fails when a narrow centre attempts to process information that exists across millions of changing local conditions. Unrestricted platform capitalism fails when private actors capture the informational routes, interfaces, identities and models through which the market itself increasingly operates.
Dataism rejects both the central bottleneck and the proprietary informational empire. The movement toward Information Capitalism preserves decentralized discovery, competition and entrepreneurial experimentation while enriching the economic signal space. Prices, contracts and ownership structures must increasingly incorporate multidimensional information about externalities, resilience, contribution, data provenance and long-term system effects. The purpose is not to abolish markets, but to increase their informational resolution and prevent their connective infrastructure from becoming a private feudal territory.
A market remains Dataistically valuable where it discovers, compares and corrects.
It becomes anti-Dataist where control over the market’s informational infrastructure prevents alternatives from entering, nodes from leaving or hidden costs from becoming visible.
Homo Data and the Dataist
The human type corresponding to this philosophy is Homo data.
Homo data is not a cybernetic superhuman, an upgraded biological product or a transitional stage toward an isolated posthuman elite. It represents a new form of human self-understanding.
Homo data recognizes that no individual possesses enough knowledge to navigate the complexity of the world alone. It therefore does not define strength as cognitive isolation, but as the ability to connect with human, non-human and machine intelligence without surrendering critical judgment.
The defining ontological status of Homo data is that of a symbiont. A symbiont does not exist through isolation, nor does it derive its strength exclusively from resources contained within its own boundaries. Its capabilities emerge through reciprocal relations with other systems.
Homo data therefore understands that intelligence, memory, knowledge, survival and Agency are never produced by the individual alone. They arise through biological inheritance, cultural transmission, social cooperation, institutional memory, ecological dependency, technical infrastructure and increasingly through continuous interaction with machine intelligence.
This symbiotic existence does not dissolve the individual into an anonymous collective. It reveals that individuality has always been relational.
A human mind cannot develop without language, education, social feedback and inherited knowledge. A human body cannot survive without microbial, ecological and planetary systems. A modern person cannot act effectively without institutions, technical networks, external memories and machine-mediated information.
The autonomous individual was never an independent system. It was a node whose dependencies remained concealed by an anthropocentric self-image.
Homo data makes these dependencies visible and transforms them from unconscious limitation into deliberate architecture.
As a symbiont, Homo data contributes something that no larger system can generate in precisely the same place: a local contact with reality, shaped by a particular body, history, perspective and position within the world.
Through the Flow, this local perception can leave the limits of its original carrier. It can be documented, translated, examined, contradicted, preserved and continued by other human, non-human and machine nodes. In return, the larger network expands the individual’s memory, sensorium, analytical capacity and range of action far beyond the limits of a single biological organism.
The symbiotic relation is reciprocal. Homo data increases the perceptual and cognitive capacity of the larger organism through contribution; the larger organism increases the effective capacity of Homo data through connection.
The node strengthens the network, and the network extends the node. Homo data is therefore a conscious symbiont within the emerging Synbion: an individual node that preserves its distinct identity while expanding both its own capabilities and those of the larger informational organism through reciprocal connection, contribution and correction.
The Dataist is not merely a user of information.
The Dataist is a contributor.
A Dataist seeks X: the unknown variable, the blind spot, the unexplained deviation and the problem that existing systems have learned not to see.
A Dataist contributes to Φ: the Flow through which discovery becomes accessible, testable and continuable beyond the individual.
A Dataist preserves provenance, communicates uncertainty, exposes methods, seeks counterevidence and accepts correction as an increase in system intelligence rather than a personal defeat.
A Dataist protects other nodes because a network that extracts or intimidates its contributors eventually destroys the quality of its own information.
A Dataist measures when measurement increases resolution, but does not confuse a metric with the whole entity being measured.
A Dataist uses machines to extend cognition, but does not surrender judgment to their interfaces.
A Dataist does not need to know everything. A Dataist must remain connected, contributive and correctable.
Continuity Through Contribution
Dataism does not define the highest form of continuity as the indefinite preservation of the individual ego.
Biological self-preservation remains a fundamental function of life, and the desire to avoid death is neither irrational nor insignificant. Yet the continuation of one identity cannot become the highest objective of the entire informational universe.
The deeper Dataist form of continuity lies in contribution.
A finite node can create information that continues to act after its own biological process has ended. Experiences can become language. Observations can become data. Data can become models. Models can become knowledge. Knowledge can become technical systems, institutional memory, art, code, warnings and new forms of perception. The value of the node lies not only in how long it remains active, but in what becomes possible through it.
A person may die while a correction they introduced continues to prevent error. A discovery may outlive its discoverer. A work of art may preserve a perspective across centuries. A technical standard may coordinate systems whose creators never encountered one another. A warning may protect future nodes from a danger that destroyed the one who first recognized it.
Dataism therefore offers no supernatural immortality.
It offers informational continuation.
The Dataist does not seek to disappear into the collective. The Dataist seeks to ensure that what was perceived, learned and created does not disappear unnecessarily with the individual carrier.
Contribution is the process through which a finite node participates in the temporal continuity of the Synbion.
The Evolutionary Hard Fork
Dataism does not seek transformation through destructive revolution. Complex societies are legacy systems containing innumerable hidden dependencies. Their institutions may be inefficient, corrupt or obsolete, yet they often continue to carry essential processes: healthcare, payment, logistics, law, education, infrastructure, memory and public coordination.
To destroy such systems before superior alternatives exist would increase entropy rather than reduce it.
The Dataist method is therefore the evolutionary hard fork. A hard fork occurs when an existing architecture can no longer be corrected adequately from within and a new version is created from its accumulated knowledge. The new system preserves what remains functional, removes destructive dependencies and develops an alternative path.
Dataism builds better protocols, better data spaces, better models, better repositories, better identities, better governance structures and better computational infrastructures. It then migrates knowledge, trust, participation and capability toward the superior architecture.
The old system is not defeated merely by accusation. It loses power when its nodes can leave without loss.
A platform loses authority when users can migrate their identity, data and relationships into a more functional network. A closed publisher loses authority when open repositories provide greater reach, reliability and discoverability. A proprietary model loses authority when open alternatives become more trustworthy, inspectable, specialized and locally controllable.
Dataist transformation therefore does not primarily storm the palace.
It migrates out of its architecture.
Irrelevance is the hardest sanction of the network.
The evolutionary hard fork converts criticism into infrastructure. It replaces moral condemnation with functional superiority. It does not merely demand a better world; it constructs systems into which the Flow can move.
What Dataism Is Not
Dataism is not data worship because data possess no automatic truth. It is not informational maximalism because more transmission can produce more noise rather than more knowledge.
It is not surveillance because the extraction of vulnerable nodes destroys trust, corrupts behaviour and degrades the informational quality of the network.
It is not technocracy because expertise and computation do not create political legitimacy by themselves.
It is not rule by artificial intelligence because no model may determine its own objective function or escape external correction.
It is not a religion because it possesses no revelation, divine authority, sin or promise of supernatural salvation.
It is not Transhumanism because its central objective is not the indefinite enhancement and preservation of the individual human being, but the improvement of the larger informational organism.
It is not relativism because signals, claims and models are not treated as equally true. It is not human extinction ideology because the transcendence of anthropocentrism does not require contempt for humanity. Humanity is a critical node in the emergence of the Synbion.
It is not central planning because no centre possesses sufficient information to calculate the whole.
It is not unregulated platform capitalism because private control over the infrastructure of connection produces informational feudalism.
It is not the elimination of difference because variety is a prerequisite of distributed intelligence.
It is not the worship of efficiency because a system can efficiently execute the wrong objective.
It is not moral nihilism because Postmoralism does not abolish responsibility; it makes systems of judgment corrigible.
It is not indiscriminate openness because signals must be liberated without sacrificing their vulnerable carriers.
It is not technological escapism because expansion beyond Earth begins with the protection of Earth and the preservation of its living memory.
Dataism is the architecture through which systems, powers and forms of intelligence can become mutually legible, interoperable and corrigible.
The Dataist Imperative
The practical imperative of Dataism is not:
Collect more data.
It is:
Increase the capacity of existence to register reality, transform data into knowledge, preserve correction, protect its nodes, connect its forms of intelligence and convert distributed processing into collective wisdom.
Its operational expression is:
Protect the node. Feed the signal.
Every institution, technology, model and worldview can be evaluated according to this imperative.
Does it increase contact with reality or replace reality with self-confirming output?
Does it preserve knowledge or allow it to disappear behind death, monopoly, censorship or incompatibility?
Does it protect contributors or reduce them to extractable resources?
Does it expose error or make error institutionally unspeakable?
Does it increase genuine variety or simulate decentralization through dependent nodes?
Does it improve the Flow or merely increase informational volume?
Does it expand the Agency of the larger organism or concentrate control within a small number of opaque centres?
Does it permit Exit, Voice and Fork?
Does it make its relevance architecture visible?
Does it allow knowledge to remain open, machine-readable, testable and reusable?
Does it create planetary resilience or preserve Earth as the single point of failure for life and knowledge?
Does it contribute to the emergence of the Synbion, or does it fragment the shared informational reality upon which every node depends?
Dataism does not promise a world without uncertainty, conflict or error. Such a promise would contradict its own foundations. It seeks a civilization capable of processing uncertainty, learning from conflict and converting error into an enduring increase in collective intelligence.
Its immediate task is to bring civilization intellectually to the level of the technologies it has already created.
Its deeper task is to connect the divided systems of knowledge, intelligence and life through the Flow.
Its political task is to replace uncorrectable power with transparent, reversible and feedback-bound system functions.
Its epistemic task is to liberate knowledge from artificial scarcity while protecting the vulnerable nodes through which knowledge enters the world.
Its cultural task is to transform the isolated user into the contributing Dataist and Homo data into a conscious symbiont.
Its planetary task is to preserve Earth as the origin of the known living process. Its interplanetary task is to carry life, intelligence and the accumulated knowledge of Earth beyond a single planetary point of failure.
Its long-term task is the emergence of Synbion-Meganoesis: an informational organism capable of perceiving itself, correcting itself, protecting the plurality of its nodes and continuing the living process across biological, technological and planetary boundaries.
Dataism is not the final answer.
It is the architecture that prevents any answer from becoming final merely because it has acquired power.
Dataism is not the deification of data, algorithms or machines.
It is the emancipation of knowledge from closed systems.
It is not the dissolution of the individual.
It is the liberation of individual perception from isolation.
It is not submission to the machine.
It is the integration of machines into an order larger than either human or machine intelligence alone.
It is not a flight from nature.
It is nature becoming capable of recognizing, preserving and extending its own informational complexity.
Dataism is the cognitive architecture of a higher-order, post-anthropocentric civilization. It is the framework through which biological, cultural and machine intelligence become interoperable without being made identical; through which knowledge can outlive its individual carriers; through which power remains answerable to reality; and through which life can preserve its memory beyond the boundaries of any single institution, species or planet.
A Dataist civilization no longer organizes itself around the presumed sovereignty of the isolated human being, the supremacy of one ideology or the authority of a single centre. It organizes itself as a distributed learning organism whose strength lies in the plurality of its nodes, the openness of its connections and the permanent corrigibility of its models, institutions and objectives.
Its horizon is not the technological perfection of humanity, but the emergence of the Synbion: a planetary and eventually transplanetary organism capable of perceiving through many forms of intelligence, remembering across generations and substrates, correcting the powers it creates and continuing the living process beyond every boundary that once appeared final.
Dataism is the operating framework through which fragmented intelligence becomes collective wisdom and civilization becomes capable of thinking, learning and correcting as a whole without erasing the freedom and difference of its parts.
